Won't you be my neighbor?

It's been over 15 years since I last watched Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. It became something of a Sunday morning ritual for me when I was ten. Sesame Street, Mister Rogers and then 3 hours of Square One TV.

Gotta be honest, the show bored the shit out of me then. I guess Mister Rogers' Neighborhood just wasn't cool anymore. It was just 30 minutes of filler in an otherwise boring time, but when Fred Rogers was on the screen, he was the cool old guy from down the street. He'd show you that neat thing he had stored in his basement from when HIS kids were your age. He was there to listen and to understand your little unimportant problems, but in the end give you the advice you needed or the story that made everything OK, just for a moment.

You never know how much you'll miss someone until they're gone. He'll still be there in reruns, as always, to make everything better. Just for a moment.

Rest in peace, man.

Fred McFeely Rogers, 1928-2003. Hope you like your new neighborhood.
